What the fund aims to achieve

Digital8 seek to empower and enable positive organisations with defined community impact goals so that they can leverage the internet, social media and digital technology to help the organisation succeed.

Throughout our history, we have spoken to scores of underfunded and under-resourced organisations with impactful and novel goals that use their own energy and willpower to enact social change in order to improve our community, as well as the wider Australian and global communities.

These organisations are usually able to clearly demonstrate how world class digital projects could drastically improve their success, yet are unable to fund these projects due to the costs associated, as well as the limited and extremely competitive existing funding options available to them.

In short, it is our way to give back to the world.

How much can we apply for?

Each organisation may apply for one, but not both, of the following options:

  • Up to $10,000 of outright funding of time and materials at our commercial rate to cover the costs of Digital8 delivering a complete website, branding, strategy or social media presence design project. This option is only available for organisations with little to no investment capital that have been operating for less than 18 months as a registered organisation. There will be up to 10 of these awarded for the 2020/21 program.
  • Up to $50,000 of dollar for dollar matched funding of time and materials at our commercial rate to cover the costs of a complete website, smartphone or web app, or marketing campaign development and delivery of said service. There will be up to 3 of these awarded for the 2020/21 program.

Are we eligible?

To be eligible for the fund you must fit the below criteria:

  • Be a registered charity with HQ in Australia with a specific interest in creating positive community outcomes through a project, program or idea or
  • Be a registered not for profit with HQ in Australia with a specific interest in creating positive community outcomes through a project, program or idea or
  • Identify as a social enterprise, or ‘profit for purpose’ organisation, with a registered and active ABN and with a specific interest in creating positive community outcomes

In addition to being one of the aforementioned you must also:

  • Have no, or limited (not enough), capacity to fund these projects using other means such as grants, corporate donations, startup capital or transactional revenue/profit
  • Have not received grants or grant-like funding for the specific project, program or digital service before

More information

Applications for FY2021 funding are now open and will remain open until May 31st, 2020. During the month of June, all applications will be assessed by a jury comprised of a mixture of Digital8 staff as well as independent third parties. Success will be based on whether they fit in the aforementioned criteria, as well as how unique they are and the potential impact therein. Recipients will be announced on July 2nd, 2020.

If you are unsuccessful you will not receive a notification of such. However, we reserve the right to change the recipients in the event of the cessation of the successful recipient’s organisation, or any other reasonable justification for disqualification, and as such unsuccessful recipients may be offered the fund at a later date.

The delivery of services will be staggered across the year and you will be notified of your planned delivery at the time of notification of success.

If your platform requires ongoing management, hosting and development post launch, we may choose to deliver this pro bono but are not obliged to. What Digital8 Community Fund is all about

The 2020/2021 Digital8 Community Impact Fund is an approximate $200,000 per annum investment of time and materials by us into the delivery of web technology with a specific positive community impact. Prior recipients of this funding have used the resources to partially or fully develop websites, apps, branding, graphic design, as well as to cover the costs of web hosting, social media management services, SEO and PPC management services and general strategy and consulting.
