Where do I Start?

There are so many things that happen when you are trying to have an app developed that it can seem a bit overwhelming at times. So Digital8 has put together a list of things that you could have organised BEFORE you come see us about your app.

  1. Create a detailed list of functionality (what it should do) you would like included in the application
  2. Create a list of non functional (design or interaction ideas) you would like included
    • If possible provide a brand guideline
  3. Prioritise these lists in order of the most important to least important functionality and non functionality
  4. If possible provide Digital8 with your marketing research
    • Launch date
    • Target market
    • Marketing plan
  5. Determine a budget
    • $2,000 – $6,000
    • $6,001 – $12,000
    • $12,001 – $20,000

  • Functional and Non Functional Definition

According to LBushkin on stakeoverflow.com, a functional requirement describes what a software system should do, while non-functional requirements place constraints on how the system will do so.

The functional requirement is describing the behavior of the system as it relates to the system's functionality. The non-functional requirement elaborates a performance characteristic of the system.

Examples of function requirements are:

  • What is the customer journey? (What are the key steps a customer should make through your website?)
  • Do you need a CMS? (Will you need to edit the website content regularly?)
  • Do you need a shopping cart? (Do you have a preference, ie. PayPal or Magento?)

Example of non-functional requirements are:

  • Legal Compliance (What guidelines will the website need to follow?)
  • Maintainability (Who will take of the website once it goes live?)
  • Security (Is your website likely to be targeted by spam?)
